We just had to do it....

After over a week of no skiing because of nasty, cold weather, we finally decided to go up the slopes today and try to do a couple of runs. The forecast was 70% chance of snow and really cold temperatures. The first of three storms coming from the west was supposed to hit us in the afternoon so we decided to go early in the morning over at the California side.

It looks like a lot of people had the same idea. We reached the top of Canyon chair at about 9:30 am and it wasn't that cold. We could see the clouds over the west and once in a while a gust of wind will hit us. Our first run down Ridge Run, it was fantastic! We could still see the run, not so cloudy yet and the snow is phenomenal!!! Dry and soft and you can even hear it squeak under your skis. The slope was still virtually empty. Perhaps all the people on the tram decided to take Sky Chair and go over to Nevada. So we did another run and braved the gusty wind. At the end of our second run, it was very difficult to see. The clouds had moved in pretty fast and it was getting hard to navigate. It was only because we are very familiar with Ridge Run that we were able to confidently get down the mountain.

We decided to do one last run and went home. It was a great morning and wonderful exercise. We would have stayed longer had it not been too cloudy to see the sides of the slopes.

I took Nikita for her daily walk down Nevada beach in the afternoon and took some pictures. You can see how cloudy it is. I would have taken more but my new Nikon camera given to me by Amazon.com for spending so much money on their site decided that it was too cold for it to function. It wouldn't even turn on!!!! Bummer....

The picture of Matt you see here was taken last Friday--the last sunny day we skied. It was taken at the top of Olympic Chair on the Nevada side.
