LEROS DAY 3: AN UNFORGETTABLE GREEK EXPERIENCE

Coming from the Philippines where big parties and family get-togethers are a common occurence, I felt very at home at lunch today.

Antonio and Tasia (short for Anastasia), long time friends of Lars and Christine--actually they call them family--invited us for lunch at their house. We were already warned that it will be a typical Greek lunch, meaning LOTS OF FOOD. Tasia, who takes care of 4 grandchildren during the day while their parents are at work, took the time to prepare this fantastic spread.

Dolmadas and stuffed peppers

Delicious dried ochtapodi (octopus)....grilled to perfection!

I love these sweets. They are only found in the island of Leros. I was so tempted to bring a box (12Euros for 1 kilo) to Solvig but Matt said it will probably not make it to Sweden, the way I was sneaking and tasting each wrapped cake. This refreshing dessert of apples and oranges reminded me of a scene in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Portokali and milo.

A big bottle of ouzo.

The delicious conch meat. Antonio gave me all the shells where this meat came from.

And my favorite, sea urchin. This was caught/harvested by Antonio that morning. They are so yummy and reminded me of the first time I tasted them in Tonga. They are eaten raw.

Stealing some roses from their garden.
